The Study on”Status of Policing in India Report 2018: A Study of Performance and Perceptions” was a research study to ascertain people’s perception regarding the working of the police system in India. The survey-based study, a collaborative project between Lokniti-CSDS and Common Cause, was carried out in twenty-two states of India. The final report was released on 9th May 2018.  The report is an attempt to understand the functioning of the police by placing people at the center – stage of their assessment. The report is a conscious effort to move away from a micro analysis and it tries to offer the big picture regarding the understanding of satisfaction and trust in the rule of law, police excesses, the perception of discrimination, the responsiveness of criminal justice system and level of impartiality.
